As they navigated these adventures, Bruce and Alexandra learned what they liked and disliked, dreaming and planning their future together. The first two years were just the beginning of a journey filled with love, laughter, and endless possibilities.

Van Life
This is LOTTIE our 2006 Volkswagen LT35.
This was taken near Hathersage in the Peak District in the middle of winter. We were snowed in, it was blowing really cold and drifting. The snow plow arrived in the morning and we followed it out.
Holidays
We do like to get away.
Over the years we have had some magnificent holidays. If its not jumping on a plane to a Mediteranian Island like Mallorca or Corfu we can be found travelling round Britain and Europe in one of our campervans.

Walking
Here we are taking a selfie at the top of Snowden.
Walking is a real passion, we like to put on our walking boots and get out into the countryside. From time to time we venture into the mountains but Titty has a few knee issues and sometimes the decents can be a little problomatic. Onwards and upwards!
Cycling
Our first trip to the lovely island or Mallorca, top of Coll de Feminia.
We have a real passion for cycling. We train most days usually on indoor cycle trainers using virtual reality apps but we have had some great trips on the bike.
We like to get to Mallorca, the cycling paradise, at least once a year but we have also cycled Corfu and the pyranees including the mighty Col de Tourmelet, now that was a long day.

A Love Story
When we first met.
On a cold winter afternoon, outside Café Nero in Peterborough fate orchestrated a serendipitous meeting between Alex, a beautiful vibrant woman, and Bruce, a distinguished good looking gentleman. As Alex’s scarf, caught by the wind, playfully tangled Bruce in a comical dance, they stumbled into each other, sparking immediate laughter and a connection neither could ignore. Apologising with a warm invitation for coffee, Alex led Bruce inside, where they settled into a cosy corner, surrounded by the aroma of freshly ground coffee and the promise of delectable carrot cake.
Inside, they discovered a shared love for quirky humour, Frank Zappa, and cake, their conversation flowing effortlessly for hours. They exchanged stories of adventures and misadventures, each tale punctuated by laughter, the clinking of coffee cups and trips to the loo. As the afternoon rolled on, their bond grew stronger, the warmth of their budding relationship melting away the winter chill outside.
Reluctantly, they acknowledged the end of their enchanting afternoon, but not without a promise for more. "Should we do this again?" Alex suggested with a radiant smile, to which Bruce replied“only if you buy me more cake”. As they parted ways, each wrapped in the other’s warmth, they knew this was the beginning of something special, filled with the exciting unpredictability of where their newfound connection might lead.
A Love Story
When we first met.
Two years after their fateful meeting, Bruce and Alexandra’s relationship had blossomed into a delightful dance of shared passions and playful banter. Bruce, with his bad jokes and fondness for cake, found his perfect match in Alexandra, whose laughter was as infectious as her quirky moments. Together, they discovered a mutual love for music, Bruce’s air guitar solos were matched by Alexandra’s dramatic dances, each performance more exaggerated than the last.
Their adventures weren’t confined to their home. With cameras slung around their necks, they became a dynamic duo of travel photography, capturing sunsets that were always just a little too beautiful to be real and selfies inspired by the great Gilbert and George. Their escapades took them from bustling towns to tranquil mountains, each trip filled with laughter, mishaps, and memories that their photo albums would never do justice to. Their shared love for travel was as much about the journey as the destination, whether it was getting lost in a forest or discovering a hidden gem off the beaten path.
Back home, their commitment to keeping fit was another chapter in their shared story. Long walks turned into mini-adventures, each one an opportunity to explore new trails and enjoy the simple pleasure of each other’s company. Whether it was Bruce’s comedic attempts at jogging or Alexandra’s impromptu yoga poses, their fitness routines were anything but routine. These walks became their sanctuary, a time to talk, laugh, and dream about the future, knowing that whatever path they chose, it would be one they’d walk together.
A Love Story
When we first met.
A vibrant chapter in Bruce and Alexandra's blossoming romance, marked by thrilling milestones and shared adventures. Alexandra, ever the daring spirit, passed her motorcycle test with flying colours, much to Bruce’s admiration. This newfound freedom on two wheels added an exhilarating twist to their travels, as they embarked on a memorable journey to Brittany, France.
Back home, their love for capturing life's vibrant moments took them to the Peterborough Beer Festival, where the lively atmosphere and endless variety of brews provided a perfect backdrop for their photographic escapades. The Tour of Britain cycle race was another highlight, with Bruce snapping dynamic shots of cyclists in action, their enthusiasm for the sport adding a dynamic edge to their collection.
Despite the whirlwind of activities, 2014 was all about having fun and doing things together. Whether riding through French countryside, mingling at a beer festival, or chasing cyclists for the perfect shot, Bruce and Alexandra's year was filled with laughter, love, and the simple joy of shared experiences. It was a busy year, but every moment was a testament to their deepening bond and the endless adventures that lay ahead.
Life in Lycra
It's all about the bike
This year Bruce and Alexandra's relationship was one for the books—or perhaps, the cycling logs. Bruce, ever the romantic and gadget enthusiast, decided to propose in the most uniquely "Bruce" way possible: via a message on a Garmin cycling computer. Alexandra's Garmin screen lit up with a cycling profile, “Will You Marry Me”. It was a moment both hilarious and heartwarming, proving once again how ‘special’ Bruce's was.
Their love for cycling took them on a challenging holiday to the mountains of Mallorca, where they tackled the mighty Sa Calobra. Each twist and turn of the climb was met with panting breaths, aching legs, and more than a few colourful expletives. Yet, amidst the sweat and determination, they found joy in their shared struggle and the breathtaking views that made every gruelling pedal stroke worth it. Bruce helped out at the Women's Tour of Britain cycle race that saw him more entangled in bike gears, jump packs and sweaty young girls, but his enthusiasm was nothing short of endearing.
Later in the year, they proudly became official photographers for The Tour of Britain Men's cycle race, capturing incredible shots of the crowds and supporters. Their numerous cycling adventures not only brought them closer but also made them fitter than ever, a feat they often joked about while comparing statistics on Strava. Through it all, they got to know each other deeply, embracing both the good and the occasionally exasperating. It was a hell of a year, filled with laughter, sweat, despair and love of chamois cream
Biggest Adventure Yet
Up some very big hills with knees
Bruce and Alexandra's romantic saga was a comedy of adventures and mishaps, beginning with a "dirty" romantic weekend in Bristol.
Their escapades took them on a motorcycle tour to Yorkshire, where they stayed at the not-so-magnificent and definitely not-so-grand Grand Hotel in Scarborough. The peeling wallpaper and creaky floors only added to the charm, turning every creak into a laugh. A return to Mallorca saw them living it up in a swanky hotel in Cala Sant Vicenc, indulging in luxury that was a far cry from their usual budget digs. However, their hearts still beat for the rugged simplicity of adventure, prompting them to buy mountain bikes and a tent for a camping trip back to Yorkshire. The sight of Bruce trying to do a wheelie while Alexandra wrestled with tent poles and tried to decipher the "simple" instructions. They laughed that night as The Flea breathed all the good air out the tent under the deep Yorkshire skies.
Their pièce de résistance was an epic trip to the French Pyrenees, where they tackled some of the toughest mountain climbs, including the mighty Col De Tourmalet. The gruelling ascents were peppered with playful banter and exaggerated complaints about knees and lungs, each summit a testament to their tenacity and humour. Later in the year, in a fit of adventurous folly, they decided wild camping with nothing but a plastic survival bag for shelter was a good idea. Shivering and laughing under the stars, they realised that while their survival skills might be questionable, their love for each other was undeniable. It was a magnificent year, filled with mishaps, grand (and not-so-grand) stays, dog breath and epic adventures that brought them closer than ever.
The year it all changed
Not a great year.
This year was a tough one. When COVID hit, Bruce and Alexandra’s grand escapades were put on hold, turning their world upside down. Adding to the upheaval, Bruce unexpectedly lost his sister Karen, a blow that left their hearts heavy and their spirits low. Yet, in the midst of this storm, their relationship proved to be an unshakable anchor.
With global travel off the cards, their beloved cycling adventures were swapped for more local rides. The duo adapted to the new normal by turning their living room into a virtual cycling haven, pedalling furiously on Zwift. Bruce’s competitive streak and Alexandra’s knack for turning every ride into a mini-race kept things lively. Their indoor cycling sessions became a sanctuary, a place where they could escape the grim news outside and find joy in the shared rhythm of their wheels
As the year drew to a close, the family gathered in Whitby for a poignant farewell to Karen. The sombre trip was filled with memories and reflections, but also moments of laughter and love, proving that even in grief, there could be light. They relied on each other more than ever, finding strength in their shared resilience and humour. It was a tough year, marked by uncertainty, but their love flourished, transforming each obstacle into a stepping stone for a stronger, more enduring partnership.
The Adventures Continue.
A breath of fresh air.
The year 2022 was a breath of fresh, albeit sometimes muddy, air for Bruce and Alexandra, marking a delightful return to their adventurous ways. Kicking off with a wintery trip to Yorkshire, they spent a week traipsing across the moors, engaging in what can only be described as competitive mud-walking. Bruce’s ingenious (and occasionally dubious) engineering skills were put to the test as he fitted LPG gas to Lottie the camper van, proudly unveiling an outdoor heated shower. Nothing says romance like a steaming shower in the bracing Yorkshire cold, surrounded by snow.
By April, still undeterred by lingering snow, they ventured into the Peak District. Their explorations took them to the stunning Lathkill Valley and The Roaches, where they navigated picturesque trails and rocky outcrops, their laughter echoing through the hills. Meanwhile, Bruce's workshop became a whirlwind of sawdust and creativity, as he developed a sudden passion for crafting wooden bowls. Alexandra was amused but supportive, noting that Bruce's hobbies often came in waves—each one more eccentric than the last.
July saw them embark on a magnificent journey to the South West, with Lottie leading the way to Devon and Cornwall. The coastal vistas and charming villages were so splendid that they seriously contemplated a life of permanent van-dwelling. The year was sprinkled with many other little breaks, each adventure bringing them closer together in their cosy camper van. Somehow, the cramped quarters and shared challenges only deepened their bond, proving once again that, for Bruce and Alexandra, every journey—mud, snow, or watching each other straining on the porta-potty — was better together.
Continental Adventures
Another busy year travelling further afield.
The year 2023 was a red-letter year for Bruce and Alexandra, packed with adventures, milestones, and just the right amount of mischief. Bruce decided to call it a day at The AA in April, a moment that deserved a grand celebration. But before his big farewell, they kicked off the year with a few splendid short breaks in their beloved Lottie the camper van, visiting the scenic delights of Skegness and Norfolk. Each trip was filled with laughter, unexpected detours, and Bruce’s endless commentary on the peculiarities of British coastal towns.
April was a double whammy of excitement. Bruce hung up his keys for the last time, and to mark his newfound freedom, they jetted off to Majorca for a two-week walking holiday in Cala Ratjada. While they promised it would be a walking holiday, their pace suggested it was more of a leisurely stroll between cafes. Nonetheless, it was a much-needed escape, filled with sun, sea, and the occasional debate over ice cream and paella.
June saw them packing up Lottie for an epic journey to the Isle of Mull, one of their favourite haunts. They finally spotted the elusive white-tailed eagle, which Bruce managed to get a photograph of. On the way back, they ticked off a long-standing bucket list item by climbing Ben Nevis. The ascent was challenging but manageable; however, Alexandra's knee decided to stage a protest during the descent, turning their return into a slow-motion comedy routine.
The grand tour of France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, and Holland in September was the pièce de résistance. With Lottie loaded up and Bruce’s newfound obsession with film photography, they embarked on a stunning journey that felt like stepping into a series of picturesque postcards. The trip was a whirlwind of beautiful landscapes, charming towns, and Bruce’s insistence on taking “just one more” photo with his vintage camera. It was a stunning adventure, filled with memories they vowed to recreate. 2023 was truly a banner year, marked by Bruce’s retirement, family joys, and countless adventures that brought them even closer together.
